A New Life for Retired Racehorses

Rescue, Rehabilitate, Retrain, Rehome, Retire

"Most horses finish their racing careers before the age of 7. With nearly two more decades of life ahead, figuring out what to do with an ex-racehorse is often a challenge." -Emily Feldman
The US horse racing industry is a $100 billion-dollar sport that produces approximately 20,000 foals each year. Approximately 10,000 thoroughbreds each year are sent from the racing industry to slaughter in Canada and Mexico.

Statistics show that over 10,000 retired racehorses are sent to slaughter each year. That number is half of the approximately 20,000 thoroughbred foals that are born annually. When we heard these statistics, we started talking about how to change them. Our passion at New Life Center for Thoroughbreds is to ensure that all retired racehorses have a chance at a New Life, whether that be a second, individually suited career or a comfortable, well-earned retirement. We hope to educate the public on the versatility, athleticism, and kind nature of the Thoroughbred. Our mission is to be a leader in banning not only the slaughter of all Thoroughbreds, but for all horses in the United States and ending the export of horses for slaughter abroad.

Our Vision

Our organization sees the Thoroughbred racehorse not as a commodity, but as unique individuals who possess great athleticism and encompass kind natures. These horses’ lives do not stop after the track—they have so much more to give.

Our Goals

Founded in 2018, New Life Center for Thoroughbreds started an exciting journey that led us to where we are today.  Over the past two years, we’ve rescued our first horse, found a home, and established 501c(3) nonprofit status.
Goals for 2022
